Matilda, the first solidarity musical of Secondary School
All 1st year students star in their version of ‘Matilda’ at the Olympia Theatre in Valencia.
The students of 1st year of ESO at our school had an amazing experience preparing and performing the musical “Matilda” on stage. All the children participated in the musical and it was an incredible way for them to develop their creativity, teamwork and performing skills.
Hot water arrives in Huancarama thanks to the musical.
The musical was also a great opportunity to give back to the community. An entry fee was charged and all proceeds were donated to an orphanage in Peru. The response from families and friends was extraordinary, so much so, that we were able to collect enough funds to install hot water at the orphanage. This is a significant improvement in the living conditions of the children there and it was thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students and the generosity of our community.
A fun way to improve English
The preparation of the musical in English helped students to reinforce their practical language skills, including pronunciation, which they have been learning bilingually at our school since the age of three.
The musical “Matilda” was a huge success, and it was a testament to the talent and dedication of our students and overall, a wonderful experience for all involved. An immersive, learning situation for our students to develop their artistic and social skills whilst also making a positive impact on the lives of others. We are proud of our students and their incredible achievement, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.
The newspapers covered the performance, highlighting that it was a solidarity project carried out by one group. However, other students from senior years were also involved in the making of the different scenes or choreographies. You can read the news article here.
