La semana pasada celebramos en el colegio la World Book Week con motivo del Día del Libro, una iniciativa organizada con mucha ilusión por los alumnos de 4.º de Primaria.

A lo largo de la semana, los niños y niñas de Infantil y Primaria participaron en distintas actividades dirigidas por los alumnos de 4.º, con el objetivo de despertar el gusto por la lectura, fomentar la imaginación y seguir disfrutando de los libros. Este año, las actividades estuvieron centradas en conocer a la famosa autora británica J.K. Rowling, conocida por su exitosa saga de Harry Potter, entre otras obras.

Entre las propuestas, destacaron la lectura de cuentos en inglés por parte de los alumnos de Primaria a los más pequeños, la creación de marcapáginas personalizados, la carrera de la lectura o “reading race”, en la que los niños competían con la clase de al lado (A contra B) y durante un día entero tenían que leer cuantas más páginas de un libro como pudieran, teniendo franjas de lectura de 15 minutos por alumno, y la divertida treasure hunt, donde iban encontrando pistas por el jardín del colegio para llegar a descubrir el tesoro.

Para finalizar la semana, el viernes celebramos la World Book Ceremony, una jornada muy especial en la que los alumnos vinieron disfrazados de su personaje de libro favorito y trajeron el cuento o libro que representaban. Además, los estudiantes de Primaria realizaron una estupenda exposición en inglés para sus compañeros, donde hablaron sobre su personaje, la trama del libro escogido y sus gustos literarios, compartiendo así su entusiasmo por la lectura.

La jornada terminó con la entrega de premios en la pista cubierta, donde un jurado eligió a un alumno de cada clase de Infantil y Primaria, quienes recibieron su diploma y el reconocimiento de todos sus compañeros.

Last week, we celebrated “World Book Week” at school to celebrate World Book Day, an initiative organised with great enthusiasm by the  4th grade Primary students.

Throughout the week, the children in Nursery  and Primary took part in various activities led by the 4th grade Primary students, with the aim of encouraging  a love of reading, fostering imagination and continuing to enjoy books. This year, the activities focused on learning about the famous British author J.K. Rowling, known for her successful Harry Potter series, amongst other books.

Highlights included primary students reading stories in English to the little ones, making personalised bookmarks, the “reading race,” where students competed within their own year group (A against B) to read as many pages as possible from a set book during 15-minute reading slots, and a fun treasure hunt, where they followed clues around the school garden to find the final treasure. 

To round off the week, on Friday we held the World Book Ceremony, a very special day where students came dressed as their favourite book character and brought along the story or book they were representing. In addition, Primary students gave a wonderful presentation in English to their classmates, talking about their character, the plot of their chosen book and their literary tastes, thus sharing their enthusiasm for reading.

The day ended with an awards ceremony in the indoor sports hall, where a panel of judges selected one pupil from each nursery and primary class, who received their certificates and the recognition of all their classmates.
